Mike Smith

Hi, my name Is Michael W. Smith. I currently am a student over at Centriq Training in St. Louis MO studying to be a System Administrator. I am also working on getting some certifications in my time here such as the A+, Sec+, Net+, and MTA just to name a few. Computers and Technology have always interested me. My goal is to become a successful individual who makes a great impact on a company and help drive them to success.

Q: Why did you decide to come to Centriq?
A: Before I came to Centriq Training I worked in the Telecommunications Industry as well as the Retail and Fast Food industry’s as well. Throughout all 3 of those jobs I’ve had, I noticed a pattern. None of those jobs I really truly enjoyed or had a passion for. While working for Spectrum in the Telecommunications filed, I would install, and trouble shoot Cable TV, Internet and Phone. Dealing with WIFI led me to want to go back to school and develop my knowledge of IT systems more. I’ve always had a passion for anything with computers or IT work. Ever since I was little, I practically grew up teaching myself how to use and work on the basics of computers. So, one day I heard an AD for Centriq Training on the radio and decided this is what I need to do. Ever since then it has been the best decision I’ve made. I’m currently working on getting my A+, Sec+, Net+, and MTA certifications. With those certifications I plan to apply all the knowledge I’ve learned here at Centriq to show my drive and passion to any future employers for them to see I’m the perfect fit for them!

Q: What class has been your favorite so far?
A: In my time of being at Centriq, out of all the classes I think I would have to choose any MTA or Microsoft Server class. Learning how to organize users into groups and assign them permissions is very interesting and fun! Having great instructors throughout all the courses makes it a tough decision to choose just one class!

Q: What do you hope to do after Centriq?
A: After I graduate Centriq, I plan to have a stable job in the IT field and work my way up to be a system Admin making a great impact for the business Ill end up working for. I plan to have a job that pays well with great benefits and flexible scheduling so once I start becoming financially stable, I can start my family with my soon to be wife and after buy a Camper to travel and see the world with her parents.

Q: What other hobbies and interests do you have?
A: In my free time as a hobby I like to play video games with friends and stream the games we play for others to watch online. But on the other hand, if it’s a nice sunny day out you will most likely find me outside hiking or just piddling around in the woods. I’ve always been an avid hunter as well when Bow season and Rifle season starts up in the Fall and Winter. Although my favorite thing to do overall is to just have a nice peaceful lazy day with my Fiancé watching movies and simply relaxing.
