Bio
“Before coming to Centriq I was working as an Administrative Assistant for a moving company. While in that position, I developed my customer service skills (in person and over the phone) and learned how to prioritize and work as a member of a team. I heard about the TechSmart KC program from a friend who went through the IT Administration track and felt this was the right “next step” in my life. I have always been passionate and involved with computers, whether it was just gaming or actually troubleshooting problems that I ran across. I built my first fully functional PC at the age of 14. I also enjoy helping people troubleshoot their computer issues and teaching them ways they can prevent future issues from occurring. It’s a very rewarding feeling when I can help others in an area I am passionate about. The learning process and feeling of accomplishment propels my interest in the field of IT.”
Q&A
Q: Why did you decide to come to Centriq?
A: I spoke with a friend who came through the IT Administration program a few years prior. He shares the same passion for IT that I do and said it has changed his life for the better. Since he has completed the program, he obtained a job and was recently promoted. He showed me that it was possible to turn my passion into my career. Centriq has exceeded my expectations and only continues to assure me that this was the right choice. I believe the staff at Centriq really cares about the students and helps us be successful.
Q: What class has been your favorite so far?
A: Subnetting has been my favorite to learn because of how overwhelming it was at first. When we started, it didn’t make much sense until we kept doing it over and over. With the repetition, I was able to see the patterns and remember the steps. It was a cool feeling to know that no matter how complicated something might seem, I can learn and understand it. I like subnetting because it’s a good tool to understand and can often be used for troubleshooting network problems. I like to be challenged and subnetting is a challenge that I enjoy.
Q: What do you hope to do after Centriq?
A: I hope to get a job that can help me get my foot in the door and further the knowledge Centriq has given me already. In the next five years, I aspire to be a Network Engineer. I have enjoyed building a network from the ground up with our group project. To have that be my focus as part of my career is something that I look forward to.
Q: What other interests do you have?
A: I spend most of my free time playing PC games or producing electronic music. I’m a big fan of Blizzard games and have gone to BlizzCon 2014, 2015 and will be going to 2016. I do try and go outside on the weekends sometimes, and when I do I usually play Disc Golf.
