How to Prepare for a CompTIA A+ Exam

CompTIA A+ is a certification exam that gives IT professionals an opportunity to demonstrate their technical competence. This is a vendor-neutral industry exam that is recognized across the tech world and is geared towards those in the beginning stages of their careers and have about a year of experience in the field.

Centriq offers you CompTIA training, an effective way to stay on top of learning. Our new class structures offer hands-on training for the ComTIA A+ exam. Two training courses our available for those seeking certification. These are 4-day classes that each focus on a separate portion of the exam (Core 1 and Core 2) with dedicated classroom and lab time to ensure students are prepared.

CompTIA A+ Training Classes

  1. CompTIA A+ Core 1 – Prep for 220-1001 Objectives
  2. CompTIA A+ Core 2 – Prep for 220-1002 Objectives

These CompTIA training courses are designed for individuals who have basic computer user skills and who are interested in obtaining a job as an entry-level IT technician. These courses are also designed for students who are seeking the CompTIA A+ certification and who want to prepare for the CompTIA A+ certification exams.

How Long to Study for CompTIA A+

Some people are able to take the CompTIA A+ exam with little notice while others need to prepare months in advance. It all depends on how comfortable and familiar you are with the material that’s being tested.

When it comes to studying, you can take the self-study approach by buying or borrowing practice exams and test questions yourself. You can also enroll in a training course that will cover each topic thoroughly, so you are sure that you’ve reviewed everything beforehand.

How Hard is the CompTIA A+ Exam

While this isn’t an impossible exam to pass, you do need to make sure you have the knowledge needed to do well. You will need to score at least a 675 on a scale of 100-900 on Core 1 and a 700 on Core 2 in order to pass and receive your certification.

The CompTIA A+ certification is split into two exams, each one covering a wide array of technical areas. Core 1 will test you on topics such as mobile devices, networking, hardware, visualization and cloud computing, and network and hardware troubleshooting. Core 2 focuses on operating systems, security, software troubleshooting, and operational procedures.

Changes can be made to the exams are new topics become relevant. With the newer A+ exam, you’ll find that giving extra attention to security, cloud computing, networking, and device connectivity will be useful.

How Much is the CompTIA A+ Exam

The CompTIA A+ certification includes two exams which come at a cost of $239 if that’s all you are interested in. This can be done by purchasing a voucher through the CompTIA website or directly through the testing center, Pearson VUE

For those that use the CompTIA store, there are also options to bundle your exam voucher with a variety of training courses and materials. These add-ons include exam retakes, study guides, practice sets, or courses and come at an additional cost.

Where to Take CompTIA A+ Exam

Once you’ve purchased a voucher, you are able to schedule your exam through Pearson VUE. You can choose to book your time slot online, in-person, or by phone.

The convenient part to these bookings is the flexibility that is offered. Multiple times are available for in-person testing with lots of sites (including Centriq!) that serve as testing centers. For those that aren’t able to go to a physical location due to time or ability, online testing is an option. The online certification is especially ideal for those who have limited schedules or can’t make it to a testing center because it offers a secure method of testing 24/7 which means you have freedom over your exact testing time.
