As the current cloud field stands, leader Amazon Web Services (AWS) may be ceding some market share to Microsoft Azure and the Google Cloud Platform (GCP), but the challengers still have a lot of ground to make up. Among the big three public cloud infrastructure providers, Microsoft Azure has clearly established itself as No. 2. Considering that it’s a distant second, Azure has gained considerable ground on Amazon Web Services over the past year. While Azure still has a reasonable lead over the Google Cloud Platform, the latter has also grown significantly.As the competitors move closer, AWS remains poised to hold on to its clear lead. The RightScale 2017 State of the Cloud Report shows that 57 percent of customers are currently running applications in AWS, the same number as last year.
