If you’re a veteran who has been economically affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, you could get a chance at a new career through the VRRAP program.
VRRAP, or the Veteran Rapid Retraining Assistance Program, is designed to get veterans who are not eligible for Post 9/11 GI Bill funding into a new, high-demand career through education and training funding. VRRAP includes funding for up to 12 months of tuition and fees plus a monthly housing allowance. But who exactly qualifies for VRRAP funding, what’s considered a “high-demand career”, and how do I apply?
am i eligible for vrrap funding?
Veterans who have lost their jobs due to the 2020/2021 pandemic are eligible for VRRAP funding. According to the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs website, you must meet the following requirements to receive VRRAP funding:
• At least 22 years old, but not older than 66, and
• Unemployed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and
• Not rated as totally disabled because you can’t work, and
• Not enrolled in a federal or state jobs program
Additionally, you cannot receive VRRAP funding if you are eligible for other veteran education funding, including the Post 9/11 GI Bill, the Montgomery GI Bill, and the Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) fund.
what counts as a high-demand career?
VRRAP funds education or training programs for specific careers that are considered in “high-demand”. IT jobs are in very high demand (companies are in desperate need of tech talent). Many IT career training programs are covered under VRRAP, including Centriq Training. Centriq’s IT career training program has been officially approved as a VRRAP partner.
