New CEH and CHFI Certification Maintenance Fee: What you need to know.
Information Security Training will begin charging an $80/year certification maintenance fee in 2016 for all individuals holding existing (or achieving new) EC-Council certifications, such as Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) or Certified Hacking Forensic Investigator (CHFI). The fee will go into effect on January 1, 2016 and should be paid via the cert holders ASPEN account.
To offset the maintenance fee, any individual that is certified or recertified on or after January 1, 2016 is eligible to receive one free certification exam voucher upon completion of the applicable EC-Council Continuing Education (ECE) cycle. This free voucher ranges in value from $125 – $650 USD. Plus, if you redeem the voucher and pass the exam, you won’t need to worry about accumulating the required 120 CPE for the next 3 years!
Here’s an example that simplifies this process:
- After taking the CEH-100 class at Centriq Training Bob Smith earned his CEH certification in March 2015. Starting in 2016, he will need to pay the $80/year maintenance fee. When Bob completes his next ECE cycle (by March 2018), he will receive a free exam voucher to use at Centriq’s certification testing center. If Bob passes the exam he used the voucher for, he will then be good for ECE through March 2021.
The ECE requirements, which call for the maintenance of certification through Continuing Education credits, are still in effect and it is important to maintain this status by continuing to submit activities and job descriptions as they occur annually for credit via your ASPEN profile.
As an added incentive, EC-Council will extend exclusive discounts to certification holders to attend EC-Council Foundation Events such as Hacker Halted and Take Down Con, as well as discounts on additional EC-Council certification programs and material. Look for notifications about these discounts in your ASPEN account.
