Meet Jon Cordray Sr., whose journey into IT showcases the power of transformation, determination, and finding new purpose. As a U.S. Navy Seabees veteran, devoted husband, and father of eight, Jon’s path was far from straightforward. With a background steeped in construction and a life closely tied to the outdoors, raising cattle, fishing, and hunting, he always thrived on hands-on challenges and spending time with his family.
Jon’s decision to transition from the trades to technology was sparked by a curiosity for computers and a desire for continuous learning. “After serving in the Navy, I knew I wanted to build something that would last, a career to support my family and keep me moving forward,” he says. His research into options for IT training quickly pointed him to Centriq, which stood out for its accelerated, hands-on approach. “It was clearly the best of the best for learning so much in such a short amount of time.”
Early in the program, Jon admits networking wasn’t his favorite subject. “At first I wasn’t a fan; it felt tough. But by the end, I discovered my passion for it and now it’s all I want to do.” That newfound love for IT networking didn’t just stay in the classroom. Before even graduating, Jon landed a dream job working in IT and networking.
Reflecting on his journey, Jon credits Centriq’s instructors and supportive environment for believing in him and nurturing his success: “The hard work and belief the instructors have in each of us truly makes a difference.”
For Jon, moving from the structured life of military service to the dynamic world of IT has been both challenging and rewarding. His story is a reminder that with the right drive (and the right support), it’s never too late to pivot, pursue your passion, and build a bright new future in tech. Congratulations Jon!
