Bio
“I am a KC area native as I grew up in the Northland area around Liberty. I graduated from Liberty High School and started working at Best Buy. While there I worked as a sales associate in computer solutions. I provided customer service/support, trained new employees, and taught customers basic computer-usage skills. While working there a family member brought me on board with Quick Trip. I eventually became a manager and was responsible for inventory, sales, managing the team at my location, customer support, maintaining quality control, and safety standards. From there, I essentially had a career planned out, but I missed having a technology-based job. To get back to what I was passionate about, I took a position for the Google Fiber Project as a Fiber Technician. As a Fiber Technician, I was running cables, setting up home networks, and troubleshooting. While working for the Google Fiber Project, I learned of Centriq, and that was when my life changed.”
Q&A
Q: Why did you decide to come to Centriq?
A: I’ve always had an interest in the IT world. I went to college for computer science several years ago, but I really couldn’t justify the cost and the additional classes that I would be required to take that didn’t pertain to the IT field (i.e. art history, music appreciation, etc.). I heard an ad for Centriq while listening to 98.9, and I knew it would be a good fit for me. Centriq focuses on the technology I will be working with in the IT field and provides the perfect transition into an industry I have always been interested in.
Q: What class has been your favorite so far?
A: My favorite class so far, as I am a little more than half-way through my program, has been the first 2 weeks of A+. It’s really important to have a strong foundation, and that’s exactly how the class is designed. It’s really fast and really heavy on information, which is the kind of class I prefer to take. Not to mention without that foundation, the rest of the program would make no sense and would be very chaotic! It is always good to start with a solid foundation before moving on to the more complicated classes. I am looking forward to Security + toward the end of my program. It’s a topic that’s very important and relevant in today’s IT world.
Q: What do you hope to do after Centriq?
A: One day I would like leading a team within a Network Administration role. I enjoy working with others to help them reach their potential and enhance their professional development. I have previous experience leading a team, but I would love to combine my passion for IT and working with my teammates to meet goals, challenges, and exceed expectations.
Q: What other interests do you have?
A: My main hobby is video games. I know its clich, but I have played games since I can remember and it’s hands down my favorite escape at the end of a long day. However, I try to be a jack of all trades. I also enjoy football, tabletop games, hunting, working on my car, and going to the gym one day a year after New Year’s Day, and then never going back.
