Bio
“I have worked as a clerk for QuikTrip for the past 7 years. I have learned several skills from this position: active listening, teamwork, and time management in a fast-paced environment. Prior to that I worked for a catering company where I learned the importance of communication, multi-tasking and how to coordinate with other groups/teams. Recently, I noticed I had lost the joy, fulfillment, and satisfaction I once had and knew it was time to seek out a new challenge. I had never seen myself as a developer until I started classes at Centriq Training. Now, I cannot express how excited I am to begin my career in the IT Industry. I am pleased to say attending Centriq has been one of the greatest highlights of my life.“
Q&A
Q: Why did you decide to come to Centriq?
A: In November, I was discussing higher education with a family member and they mentioned the four-month training that Centriq offers. I had heard the ads on the radio, but didn’t think that I had what it took to be a developer. Jump forward to January of 2017, and I was ready. I wanted and needed the change that Centriq offers. I want to challenge myself again and enjoy the struggle that comes from learning something new.
Q: What class has been your favorite so far?
A: Thus far, I think MVC would be my favorite subject. It ties all the pieces together! Like any good craft, you have many pieces, options, and problems to solve. To me, this is what being a Full Stack Developer is all about. You need to figure out your wire frame, pick your template, and start building out all your controllers, models, and views. I really get into the CSS, too. Making things look nice is something I enjoy. It can be a really tedious, painful process sometimes, but to me, it is totally worth it!
Q: What do you hope to do after Centriq?
A: After I complete the Full-Stack Web Developer program, my goal is to land a fantastic job in the new career field I have trained for. Though I learned a lot at Centriq, I still have so much more to learn. The job I hope to get will continue feeding my knowledge as a developer, will challenge and satisfy me, and will exercise the creativity that I possess.
Q: What other interests do you have?
A: One of my biggest passions is Arts & Crafts: card-making, seasonal crafts, home d’cor, gifts, painting, etc. I love to work with my hands. Staying busy is also something that is important to me. I don’t like to sit around and waste the day away. Other interests include being outside: fishing, camping, riding ATVs and dirt bikes, going to the gun range, and yard work. When I finally am ready to sit down, I love watching movies, playing Skyrim, reading an enjoyable book, or writing. My days are full of activity!
