Bio
“I’m a lifelong resident of the Kansas City. For the past 30 years I’ve worked in the Automotive Technology field. It began after I received my Associates Degree in Applied Sciences after attending Longview Community College on scholarship. For 15 years I worked as a Mechanic’s helper, Shop Technician and Field Mechanic, and for the other 15 years, I was a Maintenance Supervisor. In these roles I’ve learned valuable life skills which include being able to work with a diverse group of people, leadership, managing teams, and working well under pressure. About 4 years ago I had I chance to work for Grandview C4 School District as an IT Field Technician and it changed my life! Before working on cars I always wanted to work on computers and electronics, but I never had the chance. Centriq has given me that chance and a whole lot more!”
Q&A
Q: Why did you decide to come to Centriq?
A: Growing up, I was the go-to person in my family when something broke. As a kid my grandmother would always encourage me by saying, “You’re so smart!” “I know you can do it!” “You can fix anything!” “If you see it, you can be it!” These are words that I’ve always carried in my heart and they helped me follow my lifelong passion for computers. I came to Centriq because I wanted get the necessary training and education to help me reach my goals. To me, coming to Centriq was a blessing and I’ve really enjoyed working with Kim, Russ, Kiera, Nicole, and the rest of the amazing staff!
Q: What class has been your favorite so far?
A: For me at was IT Administration 1 with Caleb George. Caleb took a very complex subject, Subnetting, and presented it in a way that met my learning needs. I loved it! He also introduced me to some additional resources that I could use for continued practice. I use them several times a week!
Q: What do you hope to do after Centriq?
A: Since I’m entering into a whole new career field, I would like to get a start out with a Desktop Support role so I can continue to work with my hands. After gaining more experience, I hope to move further into Networking, then Security, and ultimately become an IT Director.
Q: What other interests do you have?
A: I always find joy in volunteering. For nearly 10 years I’ve volunteered at several organizations throughout the city. I enjoy using my time, talent and resources to help other people. When I’m not serving others I enjoy biking, fishing, watching movies, digital photography and playing video games.
