Russell Cross
Bio
I began my career in banking as a Financial Analyst and progressed in my career to become the Head of Compliance. Both roles helped me develop analytical and critical thinking skills, and taught me the importance of effective communication.
My proudest accomplishment was being involved in a start-up business. It was the most stressful venture I’d ever undertaken, but it taught me the importance of customer service, time management, and effective leadership.
Throughout my career, I have always been the guy my co-workers would call on to troubleshoot their computer problems. I enjoyed this more than any other work I have ever done, and I found myself in a position where I could turn this passion into a career. With the hands-on experience I have gained at Centriq, I believe I could add value to any team.
Q&A
Q: Why did you decide to come to Centriq?
A: When I decided it was time to follow my passion I knew I wanted more than simple book learning. Centriq offered the hands-on experience I felt was integral to understanding what work in the IT field was really like. Combined with the fact that they update their curriculum quickly in response to the needs of employers, I knew it was the place for me.
Q: What class has been your favorite so far?
A: Windows Server Administration has been my favorite subject so far. I was immediately impressed with the utility of Active Directory. The ability to manage and monitor a network efficiently and competently is one of my goals, and I look forward to getting everything I can out of this course.
Q: What do you hope to do after Centriq?
A: My short-term goal is to get my foot in the door. Once I’ve achieved that, I plan on making myself as valuable as I can to my employer by bringing my love of troubleshooting and technology to my work. My long-term goal is to work my way up to Systems Administrator.
Q: What other hobbies and interests do you have?
A: I fell in love with computers when I was a teen in the mid-90s. Since then I’ve worked on and upgraded several of my own PCs. I have also been a gamer throughout. In addition, I love reading and learning. I focus mostly on ancient history, but I’ve been known to explore economics and psychology too. I believe education is a lifelong process.
