Featured STL Developer Student for January 2019
Richard Boggs
Bio
I knew I wanted to become a web developer in high school and pursued that dream. I graduated from University of Missouri-St. Louis with a Bachelor’s degree but unfortunately they didn’t have a developer program. My education continued in the workforce where I taught myself technical skills including, but not limited to, Visual Basic, front end development/design, C#, and Java. Centriq Training helped me take those skills and focus my skillset into my dream career.
Q&A
Q: Why did you decide to come to Centriq?
A: My previous employer went through a round of layoffs and I was included in that group. My son was due to be born in a few months and I was scrambling to find another job to support my family. Rather than finding another dead-end job I was referred to Centriq Training. I looked into their program and decided it was exactly what I was looking for. Now that I’m almost done with the program, I know I made the right choice.
Q: What class has been your favorite so far?
A: My favorite subject by far is C#. I love designing and building applications from scratch, finding creative ways to reach that objective, the fight to debug errors and, most of all, hitting that “Eureka!” moment of surmounting the challenges that come with programming.
Q: What do you hope to do after Centriq?
A: My plan for Centriq is to not only find an entry level position as a developer but to continue improving myself and learn new technologies. My hunger for new knowledge and skills will never be satiated.
Q: What other hobbies and interests do you have?
A: My main hobby is collecting signed memorabilia, especially anything from the St. Louis Blues. My favorite piece is a picture of Ozzie Smith signed and personalized with a baby announcement by Mr. Oz himself!
