Lance Vogel
Bio
My name is Lance Vogel and I was born and raised here in St. Louis, MO. My wife Nikki and I have lived in Holly Hills for 2 years and we are expecting our first child in October. We also have a Pekingese, Taco, and a cat named Margo. I have been using computers my whole life and even learned to read with the Reader Rabbit computer games. Creative Writing and Computer class were always my favorites and I am excited to have finally merged my favorite subjects with my coding education.
Q&A
Q: Why did you decide to come to Centriq?
A: I had been working as a courier for 4 years and really wanted to make the change to an IT career because I am passionate about computers and there is more potential for growth. There were many options to consider but my brother-in-law, Nate Richards, was a student at Centriq and spoke highly of Centriq’s small classes and “no student left behind” method. Most students who start at Centriq have little to no experience with coding and it is amazing watching your fellow classmates grow together in their knowledge and motivate each other through the hard parts.
Q: What class has been your favorite so far?
A: I enjoyed the creativity of HTML and JavaScript and seeing your work immediately displayed on a web page. But even as a right-brained person, C# was exciting. Every day was like Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory as we built new tools with C# and used them to complete tasks. We even got to build a C# dungeon adventure game which was so much fun, especially for an RPG nerd like myself.
Q: What do you hope to do after Centriq?
A: After Centriq, I hope to work for a company that will utilize my new coding skills and where I can continue to grow in my knowledge of development. I never want to stop learning more about developing. Starting to code was like opening a wizard’s tome for me. It can be complex, but it is also exciting and there are endless possibilities it can achieve.
Q: What other hobbies and interests do you have?
A: In my free time, I love biking and kayaking with my wife, gaming, and reading. I saw Jurassic Park in kindergarten and even though I covered my eyes for most of the movie, I fell in love with dinosaurs. There will never be anything cooler than a Tyrannosaurus Rex. I seriously cannot wait to watch that movie with my son.
