Kayla McCullough

Bio
My name is Kayla McCullough. I grew up living the life of a military brat; moving and traveling every other year, not really settling in one place but relocating and adjusting as my father’s profession required. I am grateful that I have seen and lived in some amazing places but had always longed to settle down in one place to call home. 25 years ago we moved from San Francisco, Ca. to Kansas City and raised our children into adulthood and are proud of the people they are becoming. Nowadays, we occupy our time with 3 dachshunds that have just taken over our hearts.
Q&A
Q: Why did you decide to come to Centriq?
A: I was an Office Manager for many years, most recently in the hospitality industry. Although my prior position offered a varied amount of work, I had reached my full potential in the industry and could not go any further. I quickly realized that this same scenario would happen even if I had moved to a different company. So, I decided to do a career exploration and apropos to the moment I heard an ad on the radio for Centriq IT Training. I contacted Russ Mondry and found myself taking a career evaluation test. I have no IT background and was uncertain about the assessment but was assured that there are no wrong answers, just a mechanism to show IT aptitude. WHEW! From there, I enrolled at Centriq and have been immersed in my studies ever since. Besides learning about the exciting field of IT, I also chose Centriq because of the accelerated pace, which will allow me to start my new career more quickly.
Q: What class has been your favorite so far?
A: No favorite’s yet but PowerShell was really intriguing. I am currently half-way through completing the program and have enjoyed every minute of my training so far. My instructors have all been amazing! I have enjoyed their first-hand stories from the field and their experience in the subjects that they teach. Currently, I start the MTA block next week while also attempting to pass my Net+ exam. The classes are challenging but I have enjoyed everything that I am learning, and I am looking forward to learning some more!
Q: What do you hope to do after Centriq?
A: With the options in the IT career field being so vast, I hope to eventually find a position where I can apply my interpersonal communication skills, operations experience and marry them with my newly attained IT training. I am leaning towards a career as a Network/System Administrator in the short term and leadership in the long term. Until then, I am going to continue towards obtaining all my certifications from Centriq.
Q: What other hobbies and interests do you have?
A: I have a wide range of interest but mostly I enjoy playing golf, traveling, painting, going to sporting events and concerts and hanging out with friends and last but not least…I LOVE BEING QUARANTINED WITH MY HUSBAND, CHRIS!
