Featured Networking Student for January 2020
My name is Matthew Davila and I was born in Watertown, NY but raised in Big Spring, TX. I was a former pre-Med student at Mizzou for a little over a year before realizing that I was much more passionate about Computer Science. Before coming to Centriq, I was a Price & Signage Coordinator at DICK’S Sporting Goods and a Driver for Enterprise Rent-A-Car, where I learned valuable skills in the service industry that I look forward to transitioning into the technological field. Using the knowledge and skills gained from Centriq, I am very excited and optimistic to see where my future career leads me.
Q: Why did you decide to come to Centriq?
A: I chose to come to Centriq because I’ve always had a fascination with learning how technology works and makes everyday environments function. Throughout my time in college, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to make a career out of but realized building debt in a field I wasn’t passionate about wasn’t doing me any favors. After researching other options, I came across Centriq and was attracted to the unique hands-on experience and 4-month timetable, so I decided to move from Lubbock, TX and attend the program.
Q: What class has been your favorite so far?
A: Overall, I enjoy Virtualization and attempting to use Windows PowerShell. I enjoy Virtualization for many reasons, but mainly for creating sandbox environments while I enjoy PowerShell for the command line interface and automation. I am also very excited to work with Linux.
Q: What do you hope to do after Centriq?
A: After graduating, I hope to gain an entry-level position for a company with a great culture in order to gain experience in the field. While gaining field experience, I will continue to further my knowledge and understanding of technology awaiting to see where life takes me next.
Q: What other hobbies and interests do you have?
A: Outside of learning, I am very passionate about music, traveling, sports, and cars. I enjoy watching the New York Yankees, spending time with my girlfriend, going to music festivals, watching stand-up comedy, playing video games. I have been inside of the White House and performed a solo as well as the world premiere of a musical composition alongside a Grammy Winning performer in Carnegie Hall.
