Bio
I have worked the last several years in Customer Service. During this time I’ve developed a lot of really good skills, such as active listening, working in a fast paced environment, and speaking and explaining things clearly. I also started my own side business at the beginning of the year making and selling paper art. This has taught me a lot of skills as well like organizing, prioritizing, and planning work. Aside from work and running a business and I am a partner to my wonderful Fiancé, Jake, and a Mother to my awesome 3-year-old, Lincoln.
Q&A
Q: Why did you decide to come to Centriq?
A: Now that my sons in school I’m moving away from the stay at home mom gig during the day and working evenings waiting tables and am ready for a career change. I have a background in Tax Prep and Accounting and really enjoyed all of the critical thinking and problem solving that came along with it. I’ve also always had a passion for technology, so development really brings the best of both worlds together for me! My fiancé went through the program 3 years ago and has continued to thrive since, so we knew the fast-paced and fully immersive program would be right for me as well.
Q: What class has been your favorite so far?
A: Overall Centriq has been quite the journey and I’m looking forward to the rest of the track. But my favorite class this far would have to be C#, I loved all the logic and reasoning and rulesets that it brings. We built a “dungeon” application our 2nd week at school, this I took as a challenge to do something different and let myself shine through. I built out an “Escape the Console” game where the user must solve different puzzles to escape with a limited number of tries. I had a blast putting it all together and learning about C#. I do plan to make a JavaScript version further on in the track to display on my personal portfolio as well!
Q: What do you hope to do after Centriq?
A: After Centriq I would like to find an awesome Dev Job at a company that I can continue to learn and grow with. Aside from that, I would love to get into the Kansas City Tech Community and start volunteering. There are a couple of wonderful organization I’ve learned about through Centriq that I would really like to get involved with!
Q: What other hobbies and interests do you have?
A: I love spending time with my little family. We love taking adventures, whether it be a trip driving across the country, a weekend at the lake, or even just a trip to the zoo or a new park! In my downtime, I enjoy reading, crafting, and playing games. Besides that, my main hobby at the moment is running my side business and making new Paper Art. Thanks to Centriq I am also now able to build a website/store and am working on that project now!
