JERRY CROW
BIO
My name is Jerry Crow. As a kid, I always loved building things with Legos. I was able to take that love and passion and transfer it into computers. I remember my first programming course and the feeling of being so lost. I got a “C” in the class, but I was hooked. The teacher was shocked to see me back for the next course, but I was determined and got an “A.” I graduated from Missouri State University with a degree in Computer Information Systems. I have been working in IT for 22 years. I spent most of those years building Windows-based programs in Visual Basic. The last seven of those years, I primarily used Java to build client specific projects and a reporting environment to interface with company products. The company was purchased by another firm, and I received the opportunity to train at Centriq.
Q&A
Q: Why did you decide to come to Centriq?
A: For many years, I was involved with several computer programming clubs that met outside of work. Many of our meetings were held at Centriq. I was always impressed with their facilities and with the reputation they held as one of the leading educators of computer professionals in the area. Many times I wondered what it would be like to attend Centriq and to be trained in the latest computer skills. When I was given the opportunity to expand my computer knowledge, I wasted no time in choosing Centriq. While at Centriq, I have been able to review previous skills and to be trained in web technologies. I was especially interested in learning to use Microsoft .NET. Besides updating my computer skills, Centriq has also boosted my confidence and prepared me for the job-hunting process. All of my experiences at Centriq have renewed my excitement about my future.
Q: What class has been your favorite so far?
A: My favorite classes have been C# and MVC. MVC has been the piece that I feel I was missing in my career. It has been challenging, but very cool to learn.
Q: What do you hope to do after Centriq?
A: I desire to find a computer position that will allow me to use my full stack knowledge, with the opportunity to add additional skills. I want to spend more time learning Javascript, Angular, and begin exploring Node. js.
Q: What other hobbies and interests do you have?
A: I am always playing with technology. I just got my first Raspberry Pi computer and am looking forward to seeing what I can do with it. In addition, I am a huge Star Wars fan and enjoy collecting the merchandise. I also enjoy spending time with my wife and two children.
