Featured Developer Student for July 2018
Jessica wilson
I come from a diverse professional background, which has been great for exploring different industries. I also have a diverse educational background, from nursing to accounting. I’ve always had a knack for all things tech related, that goes back to spending hours on MySpace manipulating HTML to make my profile awesome or playing video games! Outside of tech, I am a Mom to an 8-year-old miniature version of myself as well as 2 active Boxers.
Q&A
Q: Why did you decide to come to Centriq?
A: The IT guy at my last job continued to tell me that I had the ‘programmer’ bug, and would refer people to me when they had issues that were outside of his expertise. The more our office started calling me the programmer, the more interested I was in getting into the field. I started having conversations with people in the tech industry, including a few alumni. My first conversation with Russ pretty much sealed the deal for me.
Q: What class has been your favorite so far?
A: Data week was my favorite! I have a lot of experience with creating different reports and manipulating data, so it was just logical and made sense for me. We all like things we are good at!
Q: What do you hope to do after Centriq?
A: It’s obvious that landing my first dev job is high on the to do list, but aside from… figuring out how to stay involved in the tech community. The networking aspect and being able to volunteer at different events has been one of the most rewarding experiences, and I want to keep making in impact even after Centriq.
Q: What other hobbies and interests do you have?
A: I’m very outdoorsy when it’s warm, and basically a recluse when it’s cold. In the summer you can find me on the lake with the fam, working on my Wake Surfing skills. In the winter, you’ll find me binging on whatever video game I’m hooked on.
