Mike Moore
Bio
For the past 20+ years, I was a mainframe developer in the financial services industry. After 9/11, I took military leave to serve in the Army and was deployed to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom. When my life as an infantryman ended, I returned to the life of a mainframe programmer. After a while, I grew restless for a new challenge so I decided to grow my coding skill set by learning newer technologies. Now I’m working on that goal at Centriq and enjoying the experience.
Q&A
Q: Why did you decide to come to Centriq?
A: A Moose talking through my radio told me to go see his buddy Russ at Centriq. Actually, I was bored with coding in COBOL but enjoyed helping co-workers who were coding in Java. I was ready for a change so with Moose’s encouragement, I decided to check out the programs available at Centriq. I liked the idea of a four-month program, with live, hands on instruction, teaching the most current technologies used by Kansas City companies. Moose by the way is a local disc jockey.
Q: What class has been your favorite so far?
A: Currently, C# is my favorite because with what I’ve learned so far I’ve been able to help my high school son with his computer class projects where they are coding in Python.
Q: What do you hope to do after Centriq?
A: I’d like to work for a company that will utilize my years of project development experience while allowing me to continue to build the technology skills I’ve gained at Centriq. I’d also like to continue expanding my knowledge into other technologies.
Q: What other hobbies and interests do you have?
A: My family owns and operates the coolest shaved ice bus around, Snowie KC. In addition to helping with the family business, I enjoy watching my kids in their school sports and coaching youth baseball and soccer for parks and recreation.
