BOYD SIMMS
Bio
I grew up in Pleasant Hill, Missouri until the age of 18 where I joined the United States Army. In the Army I specialized as a Network and System Administrator. The Military gave me awesome opportunities to live in and visit countries such as Ireland, Korea, and Japan. I worked as a Network Administrator after the Military for two years, but was ready for something new and challenging.
Q&A
Q: Why did you decide to come to Centriq?
A: My wife is the one that recommended me to Centriq. I had previously been a part of the Sys/Net Admin side for 11 years prior so I wanted something new and challenging. With the problem-solving knowledge and understanding I wanted something where I could take my creative ability and my technical knowledge and combine both into something I loved. The Web Development side was a perfect fit for me going forward in my career progression. After the first few weeks I knew this was for me!
Q: What class has been your favorite so far?
A: I have really enjoyed Data. Learning about ADO.Net initially then moving into Entity Framework was awesome. I enjoyed the advanced SQL commands and setting up databases. Tying in the back-end to the middle tier really helped me relearn C# and many of the issues I initially had learning it in the first two weeks of the course.
Q: What do you hope to do after Centriq?
A: I am most definitely looking for new opportunities to help grow my knowledge and understanding of all the challenges in the development world. Kansas City is an awesome, growing, technology metropolis. There are jobs opening up daily so finding a good fit should be relatively simple. To tie into what my family enjoys doing I am excited to eventually volunteer for programs such as CoderDojoKC and helping WIT (Women in Technology) grow by supporting my wife in her journey through the program as well.
Q: What other hobbies and interests do you have?
A: I enjoy spending time with my wife, three kids, and our dog. Our family often volunteers at our church and Heart and Hand. From Hunting, Fishing, to Kayaking the family and I are always enjoying the Outdoors in some regard. I am an avid gamer and love to cook.
