Sawyer Gobin
BIO
I came to Kansas City to study Music Education and as much as I loved the teachings, I quickly found the career field wasn’t a fit for me.
Since then I’ve been problem-solving on the daily as a restaurant manager and found I most enjoyed analyzing, deconstructing, and finally solving big, complex problems.
Of course as I learned that about myself, the transition to programming was almost a no-brainer.
It was an instant fit and I love it more every day!
Q&A
Q: Why did you decide to come to Centriq?
A: I knew I found the most fulfillment when I could leverage my skills to tackle the problems that gave others pause. And to do that, I needed a place to help me build the best skill “toolbox” possible.
I had felt burned in the past by post-secondary schools and Centriq’s no-nonsense, adaptable, focused approach to learning career-related skills was like a breath of fresh air.
Q: What class has been your favorite so far?
A: It was during my introduction to C# that I really saw the potential of developing as an art form, a storytelling medium, a connection between people, and the wonderful tool that it is to press humanity ever onward.
It’s cheesy, I know, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t true.
Q: What do you hope to do after Centriq?
A: I love collaboration and teaching so I hope to become a part of a thriving development team with a culture of positivity, lifelong learning, and an insatiable need for improvement. Developing every day becomes a career I’m more excited to eventually thrive in.
Q: What other hobbies and interests do you have?
A: I’m a sucker for the collaborative storytelling process of Dungeons and Dragons. I love getting together with friends to weave a story greater than the sum of its parts.
Otherwise, I’m constantly looking for new recipes to try out and am always ready to discuss the latest video games.
