2015 brought a number of changes to Centriq Training! Our facility was remodeled to accommodate two new classrooms and a break area on the North side of the building. Thank You, TechSmart KC Alumni!
Our 3rd Annual TechSmart KC Alumni Appreciation Event was held on Thursday, June 11th. A large tent was set up in our back parking lot and the event featured food trucks from Taco Republic and The Sweet Tooth Cupcake Cruiser. Six employers helped sponsor the event and set up tables to visit with alumni about their current job openings. Thank you AOS, Grantham University, TriCom Technical Services, Adams Gabbert, Netsmart, and Apex Systems!
The evening was filled with networking, food, drinks, and entertainment from some of our alumni members. Including Zanzibar Drums (Alumni Lance Rupert), an African drumming and world music ensemble and Tricks of Light (Alumni Chris Byram, Cody Sanders, Jeren Sisk and Chris Trollman), a professional?? fire group, which includes fire spinning, breathing, hula hoops and martial arts.
What’s New at Centriq Training
When is the last time you stopped by 8700 State Line for a visit? If it was before March, you probably haven’t seen our latest remodel. We are so excited about the newest changes to our facility, which includes more classrooms, new furniture for student use, and a new lounge on the first floor for our staff and instructors. If you haven’t seen it all in person yet, hopefully you will soon at our upcoming Alumni Appreciation Event on June 11! Check out the pictures below for a sneak peek in the meantime!
Centriq Champions
When you hear “Centriq,” what immediately comes to mind? IT Training? School? You may not be aware that Centriq is not just the name of our company, but also an acronym of our core values. Those core values are: Communication, Empowerment, No Student Left Behind, Teamwork, Recognition, Innovation, and Quality. These values are at the heart of our business, and direct our services and decision-making. For years, Centriq has recognized “Centriq Champions” every month – instructors or staff members who have embodied one or more of these values.
Last month, we decided to start giving Champion awards to our TechSmart KC students, as well. Read More

Already Like Your Job?
That’s great! Gallup.com reports that only 13% of employees feel engaged by their jobs, meaning, they feel a sense of passion for their work, a deep connection to their employer and they spend their days driving innovation and moving their company forward. Sometimes, though, engagement and happiness can decline if you do the same thing for too long. One of the best strategies for making sure that doesn’t happen is to take charge of your own professional development. Here are a few suggestions for continuously improving your skills:
- Learn something new about your work. Read blog articles, books, and magazines to stay up-to-date in your field. Attend a conference, meet-up or seminar. Take a class through your company, online, or through Centriq.
- Teach a class or professional development session. Pass on your expertise and share your passion for the subject.
- Mentor others. Connect with a “newbie.” Offer to mentor them and soak up some of their enthusiasm.
Don’t Like Your Job?
Unfortunately, this is not uncommon. Gallup found that 63% of workers are not engaged, meaning they are unhappy but not drastically so. In short, they’re checked out. They sleepwalk through their days, putting little energy into their work.

Visual Resumes
The good news? You’ve graduated from Centriq and have a great set of technical skills that is highly desired by many employers! The not-so-good news? It can sometimes be difficult to make your qualifications stand out from a sea of nearly identical technical resumes.
Today it’s more important than ever to make it easy for potential employers to understand why YOU are the best candidate for the job. One way to do this is to supplement your traditional resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile with a video resume. Earlier this year, we implemented video resumes into our Business Communication class. We’ve already had several students who have reported getting an interview or being considered for a job based solely on that video resume!Read More
Centriq is Thankful
For many, November is a time to focus on thankfulness. After all, it’s the month when we celebrate Thanksgiving. On a daily basis, we are often so busy that it can be difficult to take the time to think about all in which we are grateful. However, we wanted to take a moment and share with you the top 5 things for which Centriq is thankful:
Our Students. Our students are our focus, and one of our company’s core values is ‘No Student Left Behind.’ So far this year Read More
