James Coleman
Bio
I come from a background in retail, fast food, loss prevention, and mobile repair. I also love helping people and animals, so I did some volunteer work as a roofer for habitats for humanity, and a janitor at a pet shelter. I consider myself a lifetime learner, and have taken several courses on various subjects that catch my interest like: music theory and performance, Stagecraft, policing with a focus on homicide investigation, and Geology (I like shiny rocks what can I say).
Q&A
Q: Why did you decide to come to Centriq?
A: My passion for learning about computers and wanting to work in the IT field was the main reason I decided to come here. But it was the recommendation from my former boss, who was a student at Centriq at the time that made it a reality. He told me all about the awesome teachers, the practical skills you learn, and hands on experience they provide, and how he thinks it would be a perfect fit for me. I put in a request for additional information that same night, and I’ve been chasing my passion ever since.
Q: What class has been your favorite so far?
A: Powershell has been my favorite class so far. In addition, my instructor Chris was an amazing teacher and helped me learn and become proficient with Poweshell syntax in a very short amount of time.
Q: What do you hope to do after Centriq?
A: My short-term goals are to get my foot in the door with a great company then pursue a Linux System Administrator/Developer position. Ultimately, I want to get into computer science field. Computers have potential to be used to predict destructive weather, fight cancer, rush hour traffic, and generally improve quality of life through better mathematical systems.
Q: What other hobbies and interests do you have?
A: I love reading up and watching videos on science, history, and music theory. I am a big fan of heavy metal and electronic music. Recently my girlfriend inspired me to learn Japanese. It is a very cool language- It has 4 different writing systems, and some really fun quirks in the language itself.
