April's Featured TechSmart KC Student
“For the past 16 years, I have had a great career as an Environmental Microbiologist. During that time, I was responsible for data management of the analyses we did in the lab which included designing and maintaining our first databases. We started with Excel spreadsheets and soon moved to an Access Database. Over 10 years, we had several versions of our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), slowly incorporating more information and designing it to be user friendly for our team and for our customers. So it was an easy decision after leaving my position to decide to go into application development. ”
Q: Why did you decide to come to Centriq?
A: After looking for work for about 6 months with very little results, I decided to start looking for computer training. Centriq offered face-to-face contact with instructors, a friendly atmosphere, small class size and real-world training and certification.
Q: What class has been your favorite so far?
A: I really have enjoyed it all. Some of the training was more challenging than others but the instructors have been very patient with us on our journey toward this career change.
Q: What do you hope to do after Centriq?
A: There are so many opportunities for an application developer to pursue that it’s difficult to pinpoint any one direction. I find this career change has so much to offer, I want to make sure I take advantage of it all, one step at a time.
Q: What other interests do you have?
A: The first day I was in class at Centriq, Eric had us play a little game to get to know us better, name three things about you, two true and one false. Most people did not guess my false. I am not necessarily what I appear on the outside. I am a wife, a mother of 2 boys, a boy scout volunteer, a Christian, a gamer(MMO and Board games), a cyclist, a hiker, an avid sci-fi fan, a gadget lover, and although an owner of a PC I am developing a fondness of Apple products and finally a lover of all things Firefly and so much more but that’s all I can think of right now…
